Joyce Sherrod is Sword to Plowshares’ East Bay Site Director. Joyce served in the US Navy initially as a Line Officer. She transferred to the Medical Service Corps, working as the Quality/Risk/Credentials Manager at various sites. Her final duty assignment was as Program Manager for the 33 world-wide inpatient substance abuse treatment departments for the Navy Surgeon General. After she retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, she worked as the Quality Manager/Director at acute care hospitals and HMOs. Looking for a change, Joyce came to Swords to Plowshares as an Employment and Training client and started working in the San Francisco office as a Housing Specialist in 2014. She moved to the East Bay office and was promoted to Assistant Director for Supportive Services in 2018. Joyce attended Yale University, New York University, Webster College and the Naval Postgraduate School, obtaining a bachelors in Biological Science, a dual master’s degree in Management/Health Facilities Management and a MS in Organizational Development. She spends her free time decorating her house, singing show tunes, and herding cats.
