Build a Career in Construction, and Future Homes for Veterans

Swords to Plowshares teamed up with One Treasure Island to train veterans interested in a construction career and develop Treasure Island to house veterans.

Swords to Plowshares has teamed up with One Treasure Island to help veterans launch a career in construction. Working in partnership with One Treasure Island, Swords to Plowshares is seeking to recruit and train veterans interested in a rewarding career in construction with the opportunity to build out the future of Treasure Island.

Currently, the first project slated for construction on Treasure Island is Maceo May Apartments, our next permanent supportive housing site for homeless veterans. Once completed, this site will provide homes for 104 formerly homeless veterans and veteran families. The building is dedicated to Swords to Plowshares’ founding housing director, Maceo May, a Vietnam War veteran and the first board president of the Treasure Island Homeless Development Initiative (now known as One Treasure Island). This site is the first of many new construction projects planned in the redevelopment of Treasure Island.

This is a tremendous opportunity to jumpstart a career in construction with high income potential while giving back to the veteran community. On top of the free job training and construction certifications, we offer participants a training stipend, work clothes, transportation, paid union dues, and other supportive services to ensure your success.

When job training is completed, Swords to Plowshares’ Employment and Training team will assist with job placement on or off Treasure Island in construction-related careers such as: an operating engineer, laborer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, plumber, or sprinkler fitter.

Be a part of a new partnership between One Treasure Island and Swords to Plowshares to provide high-income construction careers for local veterans. Together, we are working to build economic opportunity and end veteran homelessness.
