Touchdown! Veterans enjoyed an unforgettable Super Bowl celebration with generous partners and surprise guests.
The veterans across our six housing sites got to celebrate the Super Bowl's arrival to the Bay Area with a pizza tailgate thanks to our dedicated partners from Bob Woodruff Foundation, National Football League (NFL), and Little Caesars Pizza. They went above and beyond to include veterans during the NFL's most significant event - generously inviting two veterans in our community for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to attend the Big Game!
U.S. Army veteran and longtime resident Sam Bibbens was one of the ticket recipients. A leader at our housing site in the Presidio, which hosted the celebration, he was completely honored to be given the chance to go to the Super Bowl: "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. At 86, I can't believe I get to do something like this!"
The tailgate included surprise guests from the 49ers and Seahawks cheer squads, Sourdough Sam, and NFL legends Patrick Willis and Delanie Walker.
"It's not every day that the Super Bowl is in your backyard," said Tramecia Garner, executive director of Swords to Plowshares. "Events like this deepen our community roots, and I’m especially glad folks from the Bob Woodruff Foundation, the NFL, and Little Caesars are here to see that impact in action."
It was an unforgettable day filled with spirit! Visit the photo album here.
