Join Us For Beyond the Bridge Screening

With United Way Bay Area and several local leaders, we're co-hosting a documentary screening and discussion on solutions to end homelessness in San Francisco.

I'm excited to invite you to a community screening of the documentary "Beyond the Bridge" on September 14 at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus. Following the screening, I look forward to joining a panel discussion focusing on comprehensive and collaborative solutions to reduce homelessness in San Francisco, and share what we've been doing at Swords to do just that.

Details:

When:  Monday, September 14, 2026 | 5:00 – 8:00 PM

Where: Robertson Auditorium, UCSF Mission Bay Campus, 1675 Owens St, San Francisco, CA

RSVP (Free ticket): https://uwba.org/get-involved/events/beyond-the-bridge/

This ambitious documentary addresses the question: How can this country solve homelessness in a comprehensive way? It highlights two cities that are addressing homelessness with a Housing First philosophy that includes intensive case management, housing with services, and a collaborative ecosystem.

In my time at Swords, our permanent supportive housing programs have been home to hundreds of veterans. Across six sites, 552 veterans were stably housed with us in 2025. A majority of these veterans are low-income, above the age of 55, and live with at least one disabling condition. With tailored onsite support, such as VA case management, mental health and peer-based support, transportation services, in-unit cleaning help, and communal activities, veterans in our sites have been able to move beyond the crisis of homelessness and live with dignity.

I look forward to sharing during the panel what I've learned from veterans we serve. I'll be joining some incredible local panelists fighting to end homelessness in San Francisco, including:

  • Margot Kushel, Director of the UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative
  • Lauren Hall, CEO of DISH - Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing
  • Whit Guerrero, Commissioner on the SF Homelessness Oversight Commission
  • Ora Prochovnick, Director of Litigation and Policy at Eviction Defense Collaborative
  • Kulvindar Rani Singh, Chief Legal Counsel, San Francisco Sheriff's Office

I hope to see you on the 14th! All of our voices are essential to providing safe and stable homes where families and individuals can thrive.
