Serving the Country to Serving Time

We are pleased to invite you to the Veterans Mental Health Summit hosted by Swords to Plowshares.

The summit will address the challenges faced by veterans, who are or have been involved with the criminal justice system. We will discuss how mental health, substance use, military to civilian transition and other factors impact justice involved veterans. During the event, our colleagues in veteran services, criminal justice, mental and behavioral health will make short presentations followed by group strategy discussions.

Key Points in the cycle:

  • Before Custody: Police interactions, Veteran Courts, Diversion, Peer Mentors, Treatment Plans
  • Veterans in Custody: The San Bruno Jail COVER program, Jail and Prison Programing, Pre-Release Initiatives, VA Veteran Justice Outreach
  • Reentry strategies: Housing, Access to Benefits and Income, ongoing Mental Health and Social Service Supports

Your presence and insights are greatly valued as we work together to help our veterans overcome these challenges.

This course meets the qualifications for hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences; and Swords to Plowshares is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs.
