Swords to Plowshares’ annual Veterans Day Celebration returns on Tuesday, November 10 – and we’re pulling out all the stops at the iconic Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco.

An annual tradition for 30 years, this evening brings together community leaders, supporters, and champions for veterans across the Bay Area and beyond. This year carries special significance: we’ll also commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11, honor the post-9/11 generation it called to service, and reaffirm our collective promise to all veterans.

Each year, we present the Profiles of Strength Award to a veteran whose courage and resilience embody the spirit of this celebration.

This year, we’re proud to celebrate Josue – whose life embodies the journey from combat to community: a Marine who served two tours in Afghanistan, faced housing instability after transitioning home, and found stability through Swords to Plowshares. Today, he’s channeling that experience into supporting fellow veterans and pursuing a career in law enforcement.

What is the Profiles of Strength Award?

Swords to Plowshares’ Profiles of Strength Award is an annual honor given to veterans who have demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of war and conflict.

These honorees have faced not only the physical and psychological challenges of military service, but the long-term effects of service and post-service life. Through this award, Swords to Plowshares offers recognition and appreciation for the sacrifices these veterans have made for their country.
