Help Veterans Fight Loneliness

1 IN 5 VETERANS FEELS LONELY EVERY SINGLE DAY

Every. Single. Day. That’s 1 in 5 veterans eating a meal alone. Spending a holiday by themselves. Living day by day feeling like they have no one to talk to.

"This place has saved my life multiple times... the support has been a guiding light."

Meet David

David, a 41-year-old Navy veteran, knows loneliness firsthand. He came to Swords after years of homelessness and substance use.

High stress and a culture of hazing in the military led him to alcohol. After he got out, things spiraled into incarceration and homelessness. Then he found Swords.

Our community spaces are where veterans like David stay sober, stay connected, and find their footing again.

Today, David is six months sober and working with our legal team on a discharge upgrade and disability benefits. This summer, he homes to reconnect with his daughter – a relationship that depends on the stability he's finding at Swords.

Why community changes everything

Finding housing, getting a job, applying for VA benefits... these processes take time, and it's easy for veterans to lose hope and stop showing up. That all changes when coming to Swords means seeing a trusted peer. Veterans keep showing up and putting in the work with community.

Your gift helps make sure David doesn't lose his footing – by continuing the peer support, shared meals, and familiar faces that keep veterans moving forward.

David and veterans like him are counting on us.
