Paul Cox

Civil Engineer, retired

"As a Vietnam veteran, I have had many friends who have died prematurely, have had rough lives, have not been able to maintain relationships. I’ve had a few issues of my own. Supporting Swords is a part of my healing process and part of my continuing to serve my country."

Paul is a civil engineer and retired associate principal of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968, serving 18 months in Vietnam. Thanks to the GI Bill, he attended the University of Oklahoma and holds an engineering degree from San Francisco State University. Paul has returned to Vietnam four times since 2008 to help inform his advocacy for the United States to assist the Vietnamese in eliminating the continuing deadly legacies of war. Paul has been on the Board of Swords to Plowshares since 2005 and served as Board Chair from 2009 to 2012. An active voice for veteran issues, Paul is on the Steering Committee for Veterans Healthcare Policy Institute and serves on the Board of Directors of Veterans for Peace. He is also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and DAV.
