Resident Manager - Treasure Island

The Resident Manager manages the daily maintenance operations for a Swords to Plowshares’ owned permanent supportive housing site for veterans located on Treasure Island in San Francisco.  This position provides on-site coverage including regular maintenance, emergency maintenance response, and resident issues after hours for both week nights and weekends as needed. The position requires previous maintenance skills. The resident manager will live on-site.

  • Monitors the property daily for safety hazards and potential physical plant improvements and upgrades
  • Schedule repairs and necessary improvements in consultation with the Property Manager
  • Maintains Treasure Island facilities, schedules major repairs as required
  • Ensure fair, consistent, and thorough enforcement of all property house rules, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare and deliver all required reports
  • Coordinate tenant move-in and move-out schedules and preparation of all associated documentation and records
  • Assure availability of supplies
  • Attend and participate in departmental, organizational, and community meetings
  • Maintain positive relations with tenants, visitors, and vendors
  • Provide on-call response for building emergencies
  • Arrange for repairs and replacement of equipment, appliances, and building parts as required
  • Oversees and performs ground maintenance. Monitors the grounds and checks the buildings at the Treasure Island facility to observe activities or problems, either in the physical plant or with residents
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Must be able to perform all functions of the position within what would be deemed a reasonable accommodation
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One (1) year of direct, residential experience or equivalent
  • Maintenance experience
  • Understanding and experience working with issues of homelessness
  • Clean driving record
  • Understanding of, and ability to communicate with, diverse types of people
  • Ability to be part of a team and a team leader
  • Commitment to helping homeless and formerly homeless people to regain and maintain independence
  • Ability to plan, assign, review and coordinate work plans and programs
  • Ability to appropriately respond to and resolve conflict
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion program
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that allow you to maintain effective communication with staff, tenants and community groups
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, internet, and e-mail

Working Hours
In case of emergencies only, the Resident Manager will provide: 24 hr, 7 day-a-week on-call, night and weekend emergency response for the Treasure Island program site (with the exception of vacation periods)
