IT Support Specialist

The IT Support Specialist provides fast and friendly technical assistance and troubleshooting for all of Swords to Plowshares’ computer software, hardware, and network connectivity. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate in a clear and professional manner, have great troubleshooting, organization, and documentation skills. This full-time position is responsible for improving the technology use of a mid-sized (190+ user) agency infrastructure.

  • Provide technical assistance and solve beginning and intermediate software and hardware issues, including but not limited to: Windows 7, Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016-2019 Suite applications (primarily: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Office 365 and related management interfaces, various web-based applications
  • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software
  • Run diagnostic programs to resolve problems
  • Resolve technical problems with local area networks, wide area networks, and network related systems
  • Follow up with end-users to ensure issue has been resolved
  • Train computer users and write training manuals
  • Maintain up to date information across phone systems and spreadsheets
  • Respond to end-user computer hardware and software support questions in a manner that enhances user troubleshooting abilities and other IT related skills
  • Perform general administrative tasks related to the IT function
  • Must be able to perform all functions of this position within what would be deemed to be reasonable accommodations
  • Two-year college degree or equivalent work experience in related computer field
  • Two (2) years of combined experience in Help Desk / technology support function in a professional environment preferred
  • Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods, lift 50 pounds and occasionally work in tight and restrictive areas
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Cultural Humility Initiative
  • Must be comfortable with and conversant in use of hand tools including but not limited to: hammer, screwdriver, wrench, punch-downs, crimpers
  • Local travel may be required (between SOMA, Presidio, Downtown San Francisco, Treasure Island and Oakland sites)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, listening, reading and writing skills)
  • Willingness to ask questions freely to broaden knowledge and skills as well
