IT Help Desk Assistant
Description

Swords to Plowshares is seeking an IT Help Desk Assistant to provide fast and friendly technical assistance and troubleshooting for all of Swords’ computer software, hardware, and network connectivity. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate in a clear and professional manner, have great troubleshooting, organization and documentation skills. This full-time position is responsible for improving the technology use of a mid-sized (190+ user) agency infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance and solve software and hardware issues, including but not limited to: Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, related management interfaces, various web-based applications
  • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software
  • Run diagnostic programs to resolve problems
  • Resolve technical problems with local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and other systems
  • Follow up with end-users to ensure issue has been resolved
  • Train computer users and write training manuals
  • Respond to end-user computer hardware and software support questions in a manner that enhances user troubleshooting abilities and other IT related skills
  • Asks questions freely to broaden knowledge and skills, listens and gets clarification
  • Responds well to questions and feedback
  • Contributes effectively in meetings with technical and non-technical people
  • Perform Add and Remove changes for onboarding and offboarding
  • Perform general administrative tasks related to the IT function
  • Must be able to perform all functions of this position within what would be deemed to be reasonable accommodations
Education
  • Two-year college degree or equivalent work experience in related computer field
Experience
  • Two (2) years of combined experience in help desk / technology support function in a professional environment preferred
  • Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Windows 7, Windows 10
  • Proficient in Office 365 and Microsoft Office 2016-2019 Suite applications (mainly Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to successfully build relationships and adapt communication style in various environments
  • Demonstrates effective group presentation and facilitation skills
Qualifications
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods, lift 50 pounds and occasionally work in tight and restrictive areas
  • Must be comfortable with and conversant in use of hand tools including but not limited to: hammer, screwdriver, wrench, punch-downs, crimpers
  • Local travel may be required (between SOMA, Presidio, Downtown San Francisco, Treasure Island and Oakland sites)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Cultural Humility Initiative
