Human Resources Generalist/Benefits Specialist
Description

The Human Resources Generalist/Benefits Specialist supports the HR function by assisting with benefits administration, employee relations and engagement, HRIS data entry, maintenance of charts and records, and online and paper file management. Additional HR functions are described below. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the HR Director.

Responsibilities
  • Manage employee enrollments in group plan benefits and retirement plan
  • Administer group plan benefits by answering questions, updating and terminating enrollments, reconciling invoices, calculating premium copayment payroll deductions, coordinate benefits and updates with group plan member support team
  • Coordinate workers compensation claims and engage with workers compensation insurance company
  • Manage Wellness at Work program including scheduling, billing, and tracking employee wait list
  • Maintain and replenish internal database (Kronos) and spreadsheets tracking employee status
  • Support Annual Review Process, file originals, update data, provide reports as needed to HR Director
  • Oversee administration of leaves of absence: full life cycle of FMLA/CFRA, PDL, and PFL
  • Interface with payroll as needed
  • Design and deploy internal surveys as needed
  • Source announcement venues related to job functions
  • Lead special events: annual picnic, holiday party, and other events which includes managing a budget, interfacing with vendors and contractors, coordinating staff support and participation
  • Administer and process employee garnishments
  • Attend meetings as requested
  • Support annual Open Enrollment by populating census, and collecting and tracking enrollment elections
  • Other HR duties as needed
  • Employee must be able to perform essential job functions within what would be considered reasonable accommodation
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, organizational development, sociology, communications, or related field
  • PHR or SHRM-CP desired
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience working in Human Resources
  • Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills must include tact, confidentiality and good judgment
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • HRIS experience a plus
Qualifications
  • Mastery of local, state, and federal labor laws
  • Resourceful researcher able to utilize multiple sources to address HR, compliance, regulation and best practice questions
  • Trained in coaching and supportive supervision a plus
  • Ability to sit for long periods
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Cultural Humility Initiative
