Floating Building Maintenance/Janitorial Lead

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Floating Building Maintenance/Janitorial Lead will perform a variety of janitorial and cleaning services to maintain buildings and facilities to include performs specialized floor care and cleaning, cleans and stocks restrooms, and store and replenish supplies. The Floating Building Maintenance/Janitorial Lead is responsible for ongoing maintenance and repairs to residential units as well as to offices and public areas in properties owned and/or managed by Swords to Plowshares. This position also includes preventive maintenance projects.

  • Follow all safety procedures as directed by the Facilities Manager and/or Property Manager
  • Perform maintenance and janitorial duties for Swords to Plowshares properties including but not limited to:
    • Process work orders through completion
    • Minor plumbing: un-clog sinks, toilets, showers and tubs; repair/replace toilets/faucets
    • Minor electrical: repair/replace broken switches/plugs; replace smoke detectors
    • Carpentry: repair/replace damaged wood trim; make doors/windows operable (including sash cords); repair/replace door/window hardware
    • Painting: exterior and interior
    • Drywall repair
    • Carpet cleaning/shampooing
    • Unit turn-around
    • Major and minor repairs and cleaning of vacant and occupied residential units and common areas
    • Waste management including compost, recycling, and landfill gathering and emptying
    • Maintain operational condition of maintenance and janitorial equipment
    • Assists with special events including set-up and break down
    • Performs other related job duties as assigned
    • Assignments at the De Montfort, Fairfax, or Stanford Hotel
    • Bathroom cleaning one (1) a week at San Francisco Service Center
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous building maintenance experience ideal
  • Strong understanding of both building construction and janitorial maintenance
  • Ability to think and plan independently when required
  • Current California driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • Reliable personal vehicle and insurance ideal but not required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift 50 lbs with the ability to perform all functions of the position within what would be deemed reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to use and operate cleaning equipment

 Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm  On-call responsibilities during non-scheduled hours to respond to building emergencies as well as rotating emergency response duties for other Swords to Plowshares properties
