Employment Specialist - East Bay

The Employment Specialist is a generalist position responsible for providing the full case management and job development functions that prepare program participants for employment by working in conjunction with the Workforce Development team and various units within the agency.

  • Assess veterans for eligibility for multiple federal, state, and local grants; determine appropriate enrollment for each veteran assessed
  • Enroll and maintain a client caseload in upwards of 20 per program quarter
  • Develop, in conjunction with participant, an Employment Development Plan (EDP) to assess barriers and identify individual participant service needs, including supportive services
  • Assign clients with pre-employment activities: including but limited to resume writing, interviewing skills and job search workshops provided by Workforce Development
  • Maintain a weekly check-in with clients and provide updates in both Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) software and client binder
  • Assess and evaluate job applicants to match client skills, aptitude and abilities to prospective employment openings and make referrals to secure job placement
  • Assist with field outreach which includes schools, community-based organizations, job fairs, and other partner agencies to recruit eligible veterans for grants
  • Maintain contact with employers and clients following placement to ensure job stability, verify job placement and retention, and gather feedback from employers and clients
  • Ability to perform all essential functions as described within what would be considered reasonable accommodation
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of college course work and experience
  • Two (2) years of experience providing job counseling and job development to disadvantaged, hard-to-serve populations, particularly the employment readjustment of military veterans
  • Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated skills in public relations, personnel recruitment, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills and initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of online job search engine resources
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform multiple jobs with changing priorities and meet multiple deadlines while maintaining a professional composure
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to interact well with people from diverse economic, ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to follow through reliably on assigned tasks
  • Ability to perform daily office activities with prolonged sitting and repetitive hand movement
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Cultural Humility Initiative
