Description

The Community of Veterans Engaged in Restoration (COVER) Program is a San Francisco Sheriff’s Department program that provides direct services to incarcerated veterans of all branches of the United States military. The COVER program provides veterans, regardless of their character of discharge, with an opportunity to address their obstacles for positive reintegration into society after serving in the military. COVER provides clients with in-custody case management services, support groups, reentry planning, benefits advocacy, collaboration with the VA and other service providers as well as linkages to community-based organizations and resources for post-release services. COVER is located in San Francisco County Jail #5 in San Bruno, CA.

The COVER Program Assistant works full-time to support the COVER Program by performing program data analysis, reporting, data management, and program support-related activities. This position will work directly with the COVER Program Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update web-based client management database Efforts-to-Outcomes (ETO) and HMIS for program activities
  • Work with COVER direct service team on the coordination of client files, data entry, data reporting, and client activities
  • Tracking and generating monthly and semi-annual reports, contract reporting, and client management in the database
  • Manages supplies by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating event requirements, and placing and expediting orders
  • Manage all aspects of in-custody event planning process, including printing and design of materials, guest attendance and menu development
  • Provide backup support to the COVER Case Manager such as covering weekly in-custody support groups, generating progress reports, and other case management responsibilities
  • Attend weekly program meetings with other community-based organization and San Francisco Sheriff’s Department sworn staff
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned and delegated by the COVER Program Manager
  • Ability to perform all essential functions as described within what would be considered reasonable accommodation
Education
  • Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of college course work and experience
Experience
  • Experience working with the in-custody/post-release population desired
  • Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
Qualifications
  • Ability to pass a San Francisco Sheriff’s Department background check and maintain a Jail Clearance
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform multiple with changing priorities
  • Proactive problem solver with the ability to follow through on assigned tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative
  • Understanding of the functions, rules, and regulations of a paramilitary organization desired
  • Familiarity with San Francisco community-based organizations and resources desired
  • Bilingual desired, but not required
Skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, organizational, time management skills, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively use photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, and voice mail systems
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
