RIP Robin Williams, Veteran Supporter and Philanthropist

Statistics show that about 22 veterans die every day by suicide. That accounts for 1 out of 5 suicides.  Yesterday, we heard about the tragic passing of great actor and comedian Robin Williams by means of an apparent suicide.

Robin may not have been a veteran himself, but was an avid supporter of members of the military and veteran community. “He has toured the Middle East with the USO a total of five times, including visits to Iraq and Afghanistan, to help raise morale among the troops and is, perhaps, best known philanthropically for his affiliation with Comic Relief, which was founded in 1986 as a non-profit organization to help America’s homeless. To date, the overall efforts of the “Comic Relief” organization have raised over $50 Million.” (Look to the Stars)

Mr. Williams’ passing is a loss to our community and many of us on a personal level as his influence was undeniable. Rest in peace.
