Swords Awarded Grant to Serve Women Veterans

Swords to Plowshares was awarded a $60,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation this week for our women veterans initiative. The Women Veterans Network is “facilitate a healthy military-civilian transition for female veterans, including wrap-around care to address mental and physical health, mentors, and full-day workforce development retreats.” Swords is one of seven recipients for grants aimed at improving services for female veterans.

For those unfamiliar with this foundation, it is part of the legacy of the actor Paul Newman. His work in film was followed by his foray in the food business with all-natural food products. Mr. Newman was generous and committed to philanthropy and his business donates all its profits to charitable endeavors.

Swords is proud to continue his legacy in the community. Our Women Veterans Network has been gaining momentum in addressing the underserved female veteran population; the initiative has driven work towards improving healthcare services, job development, homelessness prevention, and community education.
