Home Depot Foundation Renovates Veteran Housing

The Home Depot Foundation awarded Swords to Plowshares a $24,000 grant to renovate veteran housing for landscape and interior improvements for repairs and beautification. Initially, Home Depot staff had planned for 60 volunteers to assist with the work but nearly 100 volunteers showed up to serve veterans on November 5. Our sincerest thanks to “Team Depot” for rallying the community to serve veterans for Veterans Day. Team Depot has spent the day making much-needed renovations for housing that serves formerly homeless and low income veteran families.

“When corporate sponsors and individual volunteers are connected for the good of the community, amazing things happen,” said Michael Blecker, Executive Director of Swords to Plowshares. “The Home Depot Foundation’s dedication to community is clear – they rehabbed and are now helping to maintain this housing for veterans and their families.”

And help they have. Team Depot’s Captain, Savannah Leeper, predicted that it was “going to be a sea of orange on this island getting things done,” referring to The Home Depot’s corporate colored shirts which Team Depot members will be sporting. It was quite the turnout.

We also are grateful for the other partners who made this successful:

  • La Boulange Café & Bakery: Donated breakfast fare
  • Chipotle Mexican Grill: Donated lunch burritos for the Team Depot volunteers and staff.
  • TM Financial Forensics, LLC of San Francisco: Provided several volunteers

Thank you so much. To all the volunteers and other businesses who chipped in with contributions, we appreciate all your support.
