Future Housing

Veterans Commons

Swords acquired a new building through the Surplus Property Program of San Francisco to develop a new housing facility for homeless senior veterans. In cooperation with the Chinatown Community Development Center, Swords submitted a successful proposal to redevelop a city-owned building at 150 Otis Street, along with $888,625 from the S.F. Mayors Office of Housing to begin development.

Swords aims to open the new facility, Veterans Commons, in 2012 which will house 76 veterans. The residents will be chronically homeless veterans over 55, mostly those of the Vietnam-era. Comprised of 76 studio apartments, the facility will provide supportive services to its residents. The on-site services will be comprehensive and will include: mental health and substance abuse counseling, geriatric health care and a variety of social and recreational activities.
