Veterans: Get a Guaranteed Interview Next Week

Swords to Plowshares is hosting an employment mixer for veterans seeking jobs in hospitality. We have teamed up with a hotel group to qualify our veterans and get a guaranteed interview with the hiring managers. They are committed to hiring veterans and we will prepare you for a successful interview with them on Tuesday.

This is an invitation only mixer, not a traditional job fair. Only veterans must submit an application to a Swords to Plowshares’ Job Developer to be invited. These employer will conduct interviews on the spot. Please read the qualifications below and contact us.

Even if you don’t qualify for or interested in these positions, contact our employment specialists for upcoming trainings, job placement, resume coaching, and other valuable services.

When:
September 25, 2012. Candidates selected will be given the exact location (San Francisco) and time.

Open Positions:
The hotel group is currently recruiting candidates for hospitality jobs at five San Francisco locations. We are looking for veterans interested in one of the following positions:

Front Desk Agent
Responsibilities:

  • Check-in/check-out
  • Guest registration
  • Processing financial transactions
  • Handling keys and valuables
  • Answering phones
  • Troubleshooting problems courteously and promptly
  • Selling hotel services
  • Using a computer

Skills / Abilities:

  • Professional and polished team player
  • High standards of customer service
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Additional languages are highly valued
  • High School Diploma, ideally with some college experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Computer and keyboard savvy
  • Basic math
On-Call Banquet Staff
Responsibilities:

  • Set up and break down of all banquet and function space
  • Maintain cleanliness of banquet rooms, hallways and storage service areas
  • Pick up and delivery of various materials for functions
  • Refresh rooms to include replenishing supplies and water pitchers during breaks
  • Troubleshooting problems courteously and promptly

Skills / Abilities:

  • Professional and polished team player
  • High standards of customer service
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs (tables, chairs, trays, equipment)
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, coworkers and supervisors
Line Cook

Position Description:
Plan, prep setup and provide quality service in all areas of food production for menu items and special in designated outlets in accordance with standards and plating specifications. Control food usage to minimize waste.

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, materials and practices of volume food preparation
  • Sanitary methods used in food preparation and related activities
  • Correct maintenance and use of equipment and tools
  • Properly operating specified equipment (i.e., ovens deep fryers) fill steam table and unlock secured areas according to procedures
  • Setting up workstation with required tools and supplies
  • Expanding and condensing recipes

Position Requirements:

  • 5 years experience as a Line Cook at a upscale restaurant preferred
  • Food Handling Certification required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
  • Able to execute quality in a high volume kitchen
  • Ability to provide legible communication
  • Ability to work a 8 hour shift in hot, noisy and occasionally closed conditions
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test
Prep Cook

Position Description:

  • Able to execute quality in a high volume kitchen
  • Ability to provide legible communication
  • Ability to work a 8 hour shift in hot, noisy and occasionally closed conditions
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test

These are union positions that offer competitive benefits and wages.

Basic Requirements:
Applicants must possess a DD 214, social security card, and valid California identification card or driver’s license.
