With drawdown in Iraq taking place, it is likely that many National Guard and Army reservists will be back home soon. However, the job market is competitive and the skills learned in the military do not always directly translate to what employers are looking for. Employers are looking for “ready-to-work” candidates; even though veteran applicants may be exemplary, many employers are looking for experienced applicants over those who require some job training.
The return of our soldiers back into the civilian job market will not be an easy transition. Swords to Plowshares’ Employment & Training continues to partner with local organizations and schools to prepare our returning men and women for careers. Veterans can learn marketing skills for the growing Green Industry and better market themselves for jobs.
Effective Green Business Marketing is a 5-week course aimed at building those skills. Fine out more about our training programs on our Jobs Training page. This training is no cost to veterans at Skyline College (San Bruno) from Feb. 7 – Mar. 8. Contact Carmen Santoni for more information at (415)252-4787 ext. 307.
