Congratulations to the recent graduates of our Housing Program

Twenty five formerly homeless veterans graduated last week (November 17, 2011) from Swords to Plowshares’ unique transitional housing and rehabilitation program. The graduates of the program, all formerly homeless or chronically homeless veterans, spent an average of sixteen months overcoming addictions, mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress and other serious obstacles. The Transitional Housing Program graduates acquired the skills and resources needed to secure permanent housing, seek employment and improve the quality of their lives.

During the event, Hobert Lee, an alumni of the program spoke to the graduates about his experiences overcoming tremendous adversity. Lee who spent one year in Swords’ Transitional Housing Program after spending years battling with drugs, homelessness and incarceration, is now a vocational rehab specialist with the VA Medical Center in San Francisco.
